THE BACKGROUND

The pace of development of any nation is intimately linked with her level of energy consumption. Bangladesh, like many other developing countries, has been rated poorly for its low per capita energy use. Yet there have been significant discoveries of commercial energy resources in the country specially natural gas and coal. Successful exploration and exploitation of these energy resources can boost the economic development through industrial growth. There have been significant activities lately in the gas exploration and production sectors of the country. Also the country is about to enter into a coal era with the commencement of the commercial coal production from the first major underground coal mine in North Bengal. As the energy sector opens up its potentials for the present time, the nation's aspiration for achieving an energy security for the near future remains unfulfilled.

OUR MISSION

There is continuing discussions on the utilizations of the energy resources of Bangladesh, specially about the transparency of the contracts between the government of Bangladesh and the foreign companies which have been awarded contract to explore the resources such as the coal and natural gas.
Our goal is to discuss the related issues on this open platform to seek transparency of the deals to inform the people of Bangladesh about the national resources.
